Crop rotation

The onion is principally self-tolerant. However, as examples show, too narrow crop rotations may lead to the development of diseases with origin in the soil, which are difficult to combat, like white rot, nematodes, pink rot, etc. Thus, a distance of 4 - 5 years in the crop rotation should be observed.

Grain as a preceding plant has shown very good results. Potatoes and sugar beets can also be recommended. Maize and leguminous plants as well as meadows which have been broken up and which are used for the first time, are not suitable.
