Weed control

The onion is very weak against weeds, since the upright tubular leaves of this single-cotyledonous plant cover the ground only slowly and incompletely. Although today there are some efficient herbicides for onion cultivation, the following rule is still valid: The weed control takes place in the preceeding plant and not in the onion population itself. For the application in the preliminary stage, before the plants begin to sprout, the herbicide Stompsc has been authorized. Preconditions for the use of Stompsc are a minimum depth of 2 cm and a crumbly soil. Depending on the extent of the weeds and the soil type, 4 -6 lt. Stompsc are applied onto the slightly humid soil in the evening hours or when the sky is clouded some time before the plants begin to sprout.

Note:
Stompsc is only efficient against germinating plants, not against those which begin to sprout already! (in this case a total herbicide is required) There are various herbicides for the weed control before and after the germination phase on the market. As the guidelines for their use are constantly changed, please ask for expert advise
